Introduction

Alsun teaches German to Arabic speakers. This policy explains what data we collect, why, who we share it with, and what rights you have. The controller for the processing is the Alsun team; you can reach us at support@alsunapp.com.

By using the App you acknowledge that you have read this policy.

You Control Your Data

Your data is yours, and you decide what we keep and what we share. We ask you at first sign-in, and the same choices are always in Settings → Control my data:

• Save my progress in my account: optional. It brings back your words and progress if you change phone or reinstall the App. If you turn it off, your progress stays on your device only and we delete any copy saved earlier; you may lose your progress when you change phone.
• Share usage statistics: off until you agree. It does not include your email, your name or what you write.
• Delete my data from the cloud: removes what is saved in your account and keeps your account.
• Delete account permanently: removes the account and all its data.

Data We Collect

1. Account data

• The name you choose and your email address (when you create an account, or what Apple shares when you sign in with Apple)
• Your password: stored hashed by Supabase Auth; we never see it

2. Learning data

• Your level and placement test result
• Your progress in vocabulary, lessons and conversations, exercise results and daily streak
• Where this progress is kept: on your device (a local copy that works offline) and in your account on our servers if you choose so (we ask you at first sign-in, and you can change your choice at any time). We keep it in your account so it comes back when you change phone or reinstall the App and sign in. It cannot be restored without an account.
• Words and sentences you saved, and your preferences (dark mode, audio, reminders)

3. Text you submit for feedback or generation

• Words you add and text you write in writing and sentence-challenge exercises are sent to our server and on to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate examples and assess your answer
• We do not deliberately log the content of these requests on the server. Still, please do not type personal or sensitive information into exercises

4. Audio (pronunciation exercises)

• The microphone is used only during pronunciation exercises, after you grant the iOS permission
• We use iOS speech recognition from Apple. Audio may be processed on your device or sent to Apple's servers, according to Apple's policy and your dictation settings
• Audio never reaches our servers and we do not keep it; we store only the match result

5. Usage data (analytics)

• Only with your agreement, we use PostHog (servers in the EU) to measure how the App is used: opening the App, completing exercises and lessons, buttons you tap
• Before you agree, no event is sent and nothing is stored on your device for this purpose
• When you are signed in (and after you agree), these events are linked to your account ID only (we do not send your email or name to PostHog) so we can understand what helps learners
• Anonymous identifiers are stored on your device for this purpose

6. Feedback you send

• When you send feedback we store its text with the App version, the screen you were on, your level, your device type and a pseudonymous ID that does not directly identify you

How We Use Your Data

• Run the App, save your progress in your account, sync it and restore it when you change phone or reinstall (according to your choice, as part of the service you request)
• Generate examples and assess your writing (the service you request)
• Assess pronunciation (with your consent via the microphone permission)
• Understand and improve App usage and fix bugs (with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings)
• Answer support requests and protect the service from abuse
• Daily reminders: local notifications scheduled on your device with your permission; we do not send notifications from our servers

Service Providers

• Supabase: database and sign-in (your account and progress)
• Render: hosts the server that handles word and assessment requests
• Anthropic: AI provider that receives the text described in item 3 to generate examples and assessments. Its processing is subject to Anthropic's own terms and privacy policy
• PostHog: usage analytics (EU)
• Apple: App distribution, Sign in with Apple and iOS speech recognition

Each provider has its own privacy policy. We do not share your data with anyone else for advertising or marketing.

Transfers Outside the EU

Some of these providers (such as Anthropic, Render and Apple) may process data outside the EU, including in the United States, relying on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Retention and Account Deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists.

To delete your cloud data only, without deleting your account: open Settings, then "Control my data", then "Delete my data from the cloud". We delete the progress and words saved in your account and stop saving them; what is on your device stays.

To delete your account: open Settings and choose "Delete account permanently". Your account and the learning data linked to it are deleted from our servers.

You can also email support@alsunapp.com to have the analytics data tied to your ID in PostHog deleted, or to request any other deletion.

Security & Storage

Communication between the App and our servers uses HTTPS, and database access rules prevent any user from reading another user's data. A local copy is also stored on your device so the App works offline; it is erased when you delete the App.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• Access your data and request a copy
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your data, directly in the App or by contacting us
• Restrict or object to processing, and data portability
• Withdraw consent at any time (microphone and notifications in iOS Settings)
• Lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country of residence

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

Policy Updates

We may update this policy when adding new features. We will announce material changes in the App before they take effect; the last updated date is shown at the top of this page.
